Account Executive offer letter template

A sales offer letter lives or dies on the comp plan paragraph. Base, on-target earnings, quota, how commission is paid and when, accelerators, and any ramp or draw. Leave one of those out and the first month is spent arguing about it.

Statement

What to include in a account executive offer letter

  • Base salary and on-target earnings (OTE) as two separate numbers.
  • Quota, the measurement period, and what counts (new ARR, bookings, collected revenue).
  • When commission is paid (monthly on closed-won, quarterly on collected) and any clawback on churn.
  • Ramp: a draw or a reduced quota for the first months, with dates.
  • Accelerators and decelerators above and below quota.
  • Territory or segment if it is assigned at hire.
  • A statement that the commission plan document governs.

Questions

Should the commission plan be in the offer letter or a separate document?
Summarise it in the letter and attach or reference the plan document. The letter should say the plan governs so the two never conflict.
Is a non-solicitation clause normal for sales roles?
Customer and employee non-solicitation clauses are common. Enforceability varies by state; have counsel confirm the wording for the candidate's state.
Sending this to a real candidate?

The app sends it as a private link with e-signature, keeps every version on record, routes it for approval and pushes the hire into your HR software.
