Senior Software Engineer offer letter template

Senior engineers usually hold a competing offer. The letter has to do two jobs: state the full package without ambiguity, and read like a company that wants this specific person. A short personal note from the hiring manager does more than another paragraph of benefits.

What to include in a senior software engineer offer letter

  • Base, bonus target and equity in one compensation summary.
  • A larger signing bonus is common at this level; state the clawback terms.
  • Level or title band if your company uses one (for example L5, Senior II).
  • Remote arrangements: the home work location on record, and any requirement to travel to an office.
  • A personal note from the manager about why they want this person on the team.
  • The response deadline and who to contact with questions.

Questions

Is it normal to list a level in the offer letter?
Yes, if the company has levels. It avoids a surprise on day one and it is what the candidate will negotiate on.
RSUs or options?
Later-stage companies usually grant RSUs; earlier companies grant options. The letter should name the instrument, the count and the vesting.
Sending this to a real candidate?

The app sends it as a private link with e-signature, keeps every version on record, routes it for approval and pushes the hire into your HR software.
